परिचय

Genetics (आनुवंशिकी) जीव विज्ञान की वह शाखा है जिसमें Heredity (आनुवंशिकता), Variation (विविधता), Genes, DNA, Chromosomes और traits के inheritance का अध्ययन किया जाता है।

Genetics में यह समझने का प्रयास किया जाता है कि माता-पिता के genetic information का संतान में transmission कैसे होता है और genetic तथा environmental factors मिलकर observable traits को कैसे प्रभावित करते हैं।

NCERT के Genetics and Evolution unit में Mendelian inheritance, molecular basis of inheritance, chromosome theory, sex determination, linkage, crossing over, genetic disorders आदि प्रमुख concepts शामिल हैं।


1. आनुवंशिकता (Heredity)

माता-पिता से संतानों में genetic information के transfer को Heredity या आनुवंशिकता कहते हैं।

उदाहरण:

  • Blood group

  • कुछ hereditary diseases

  • Eye colour से संबंधित genetic variation

  • Hair characteristics

  • कुछ physiological traits

हालांकि किसी observable trait पर केवल genes ही प्रभाव नहीं डालते। कई traits पर environmental factors भी प्रभाव डालते हैं।


2. Variation (विविधता)

एक ही species के individuals के बीच पाए जाने वाले differences को Variation कहते हैं।

Variation के प्रमुख स्रोत:

  • Mutation

  • Genetic recombination

  • Independent assortment

  • Crossing over

  • Random fertilization

  • Gene flow

Variation evolution के लिए महत्वपूर्ण raw material प्रदान करता है।


3. Genetics के महत्वपूर्ण Terms

Gene

Gene DNA का एक functional unit है जो किसी biological product या function से संबंधित information रखता है।

कई genes proteins के लिए information encode करते हैं, जबकि सभी genes protein-coding नहीं होते।

Allele

किसी gene या genomic location के alternative forms को alleles कहा जाता है।

किसी व्यक्ति को सामान्यतः किसी autosomal locus के लिए एक allele माता से और एक पिता से मिलता है।

Locus

Chromosome पर gene या DNA sequence के specific physical location को locus कहते हैं।

Genotype

किसी व्यक्ति का genetic constitution या किसी specific locus पर मौजूद allele combination genotype कहलाता है।

उदाहरण:

  • AA

  • Aa

  • aa

Phenotype

किसी organism के observable characteristics को phenotype कहते हैं।

Phenotype genotype के साथ-साथ environmental factors से भी प्रभावित हो सकता है।


4. Homozygous और Heterozygous

Homozygous

जब किसी locus पर दोनों alleles समान हों, तो individual homozygous कहलाता है।

उदाहरण:

  • AA

  • aa

Heterozygous

जब किसी locus पर दोनों alleles अलग हों, तो individual heterozygous कहलाता है।

उदाहरण:

  • Aa

NHGRI के अनुसार homozygous में दोनों versions समान और heterozygous में अलग होते हैं।


5. Dominant और Recessive

Dominant Allele

ऐसे allele का effect heterozygous condition में भी phenotype में दिखाई दे सकता है।

उदाहरण:

Aa में A dominant हो तो dominant phenotype दिखाई देगा।

Recessive Allele

सामान्य Mendelian model में recessive phenotype तब दिखाई देता है जब संबंधित recessive alleles दोनों copies में मौजूद हों।

उदाहरण:

aa

Important Point

Dominant का अर्थ “stronger” या “more common” नहीं होता।

Dominance allele के phenotypic relationship को describe करता है। यह यह नहीं बताता कि allele population में अधिक common है।


6. Gregor Johann Mendel

Gregor Johann Mendel को सामान्यतः Father of Genetics कहा जाता है।

उन्होंने pea plant (Pisum sativum) पर experiments करके inheritance के basic patterns को समझाया।

Mendel ने contrasting traits के inheritance का अध्ययन किया और उनके experiments ने modern genetics की foundation रखने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।


7. Mendel ने Pea Plant को क्यों चुना?

Pea plant में कई सुविधाजनक characteristics थीं:

  • आसानी से उगाया जा सकता था।

  • Generation time अपेक्षाकृत कम था।

  • कई contrasting traits उपलब्ध थे।

  • Self-pollination संभव थी।

  • Artificial cross-pollination भी की जा सकती थी।

  • बड़ी संख्या में offspring प्राप्त किए जा सकते थे।


8. Mendel के महत्वपूर्ण Terms

P Generation

Parental generation को P generation कहते हैं।

F1 Generation

P generation के cross से प्राप्त पहली filial generation को F1 कहते हैं।

F2 Generation

F1 individuals के self-cross से प्राप्त generation को F2 कहते हैं।


9. Mendel का Monohybrid Cross

जब inheritance में एक pair of contrasting characters का अध्ययन किया जाता है, तो इसे Monohybrid Cross कहते हैं।

उदाहरण:

Tall plant = TT

Dwarf plant = tt

Cross:

TT × tt

F1:

सभी Tt

यदि F1 का self-cross कराया जाए:

Tt × Tt

तो F2 में theoretical genotype ratio:

1 TT : 2 Tt : 1 tt

और यदि complete dominance हो तो phenotype ratio:

3 Tall : 1 Dwarf


10. Mendel का Law of Dominance

Mendel के classical model में contrasting alleles की एक pair में heterozygous condition में एक allele का trait दिखाई दे सकता है जबकि दूसरे का effect phenotypically masked हो सकता है।

इसे सामान्यतः Law of Dominance कहा जाता है।

लेकिन आधुनिक genetics में dominance को universal rule नहीं माना जाता; incomplete dominance और codominance जैसे patterns भी मौजूद हैं।


11. Law of Segregation

Law of Segregation के अनुसार किसी individual में किसी gene के दो alleles gamete formation के दौरान अलग हो जाते हैं।

इसलिए प्रत्येक gamete सामान्यतः उस locus का केवल एक allele प्राप्त करता है।

इस law को Law of Purity of Gametes भी कहा जाता है।


12. Law of Independent Assortment

जब अलग-अलग genes/chromosomal loci के alleles gamete formation के दौरान स्वतंत्र रूप से assort होते हैं, तो उनके inheritance patterns में independent assortment दिखाई दे सकता है।

यह principle विशेष रूप से उन genes के लिए लागू होता है जो:

  • अलग chromosomes पर हों, या

  • एक ही chromosome पर sufficiently far apart हों ताकि linkage का प्रभाव कम हो।

इसलिए यह कहना कि हर gene pair हमेशा independently assort करता है, सही नहीं है।

Linked genes independent assortment से deviation दिखा सकते हैं।


13. Dihybrid Cross

जब दो pairs of contrasting characters का एक साथ अध्ययन किया जाता है, तो इसे Dihybrid Cross कहते हैं।

Classical Mendelian dihybrid cross में, यदि genes independently assort करते हैं और complete dominance हो, तो F2 phenotypic ratio:

9 : 3 : 3 : 1

होता है।


14. Test Cross

किसी individual के unknown dominant genotype को determine करने के लिए उसे homozygous recessive individual के साथ cross किया जाता है।

इसे Test Cross कहते हैं।

उदाहरण:

Unknown = T_

Cross:

T_ × tt

यदि offspring में recessive phenotype दिखाई देता है, तो unknown parent में recessive allele मौजूद होने का evidence मिलता है।


15. Back Cross

F1 hybrid को उसके किसी parent के साथ cross करना Back Cross कहलाता है।

Back cross का एक विशेष प्रकार test cross है, जिसमें F1 को homozygous recessive parent से cross किया जाता है।


16. Incomplete Dominance

जब heterozygote में दोनों parental phenotypes में से कोई भी पूरी तरह dominant न होकर intermediate phenotype दिखाई देता है, तो इसे Incomplete Dominance कहते हैं।

उदाहरण:

Snapdragon में:

Red × White

F1 → Pink

यह classical complete dominance से अलग inheritance pattern है।


17. Codominance

जब heterozygous individual में दोनों alleles के effects साथ-साथ express होते हैं, तो इसे Codominance कहते हैं।

सबसे प्रसिद्ध उदाहरण:

AB blood group

IA और IB alleles दोनों express होते हैं।

NHGRI codominance को ऐसी inheritance relationship के रूप में describe करता है जिसमें दोनों versions के effects independently दिखाई दे सकते हैं।


18. Multiple Alleles

जब किसी gene के population में दो से अधिक allelic forms मौजूद हों, तो इसे Multiple Allelism कहते हैं।

ABO blood group इसका प्रमुख उदाहरण है।

तीन प्रमुख alleles:

  • IA

  • IB

  • i

लेकिन किसी diploid individual में एक समय पर सामान्यतः इन तीनों में से केवल दो alleles मौजूद होंगे।


19. ABO Blood Group

ABO system में:

Blood GroupGenotype possibilities
AIAIA या IAi
BIBIB या IBi
ABIAIB
Oii

यहाँ:

IA और IB codominant हैं।

i recessive है।


20. Polygenic Inheritance

जब किसी trait को कई genes collectively influence करते हैं, तो इसे Polygenic Inheritance कहते हैं।

Examples में कई quantitative traits शामिल हो सकते हैं।

ऐसे traits में phenotype की variation अक्सर continuous distribution दिखा सकती है।

उदाहरण:

  • Height

  • Skin pigmentation जैसे complex traits

हालांकि वास्तविक human traits में environmental factors भी महत्वपूर्ण हो सकते हैं।


21. Pleiotropy

जब एक gene कई अलग-अलग phenotypic effects को प्रभावित करता है, तो इसे Pleiotropy कहते हैं।

एक single gene का effect कई biological characteristics में दिखाई दे सकता है।


22. Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance

Walter Sutton और Theodor Boveri ने chromosome behavior और Mendelian inheritance के बीच संबंध स्थापित करते हुए Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance को विकसित किया।

इस theory के अनुसार:

  • Genes chromosomes पर स्थित होते हैं।

  • Chromosomes माता-पिता से offspring तक genetic information carry करते हैं।

  • Meiosis में chromosomes का behavior Mendelian inheritance के principles से संबंधित है।


23. Chromosome

Chromosomes DNA और associated proteins से बनी structures हैं जो genetic information carry करती हैं।

Human somatic cells में सामान्यतः:

46 chromosomes = 23 pairs

होते हैं।

इनमें:

  • 22 pairs autosomes

  • 1 pair sex chromosomes

होते हैं।


24. Autosomes और Sex Chromosomes

Autosomes

Sex chromosomes के अलावा सभी chromosomes को autosomes कहते हैं।

Humans में:

22 pairs autosomes

होते हैं।

Sex Chromosomes

Humans में:

1 pair sex chromosomes

होते हैं।

सामान्यतः:

  • Female = XX

  • Male = XY


25. DNA

DNA का full form:

Deoxyribonucleic Acid

DNA अधिकांश organisms में hereditary information का प्रमुख carrier है।

DNA की structure:

Double Helix

है।

DNA में चार प्रमुख nitrogenous bases:

  • Adenine (A)

  • Thymine (T)

  • Guanine (G)

  • Cytosine (C)

होते हैं।

Base pairing:

A = T

G ≡ C

NHGRI के अनुसार DNA की दो strands complementary base pairing के माध्यम से double helix बनाती हैं।


26. DNA का Structure

DNA nucleotide से बना polymer है।

एक nucleotide में:

  1. Deoxyribose sugar

  2. Phosphate group

  3. Nitrogenous base

होते हैं।

DNA की दो strands antiparallel होती हैं।

एक strand की direction:

5′ → 3′

और दूसरी:

3′ → 5′

होती है।


27. RNA

RNA का full form:

Ribonucleic Acid

RNA में:

  • Ribose sugar

  • Phosphate

  • Nitrogenous bases

होते हैं।

RNA में Thymine की जगह सामान्यतः:

Uracil (U)

पाया जाता है।

मुख्य प्रकार:

  • mRNA

  • tRNA

  • rRNA


28. DNA Replication

DNA की copy बनाने की process को DNA Replication कहते हैं।

Replication सामान्यतः semiconservative होती है।

इसका अर्थ है कि प्रत्येक daughter DNA molecule में:

  • एक parental strand

  • एक newly synthesized strand

होती है।

मुख्य enzymes/proteins:

  • DNA helicase

  • Primase

  • DNA polymerase

  • DNA ligase


29. Transcription

DNA template से RNA बनने की प्रक्रिया को Transcription कहते हैं।

Protein-coding genes के संदर्भ में transcription से mRNA बन सकता है।

सामान्य flow:

DNA → RNA

NHGRI transcription को DNA sequence की RNA copy बनाने की प्रक्रिया के रूप में परिभाषित करता है।


30. Translation

mRNA की information का उपयोग करके amino acid chain बनाने की प्रक्रिया को Translation कहते हैं।

सामान्य flow:

mRNA → Protein

Translation में प्रमुख भूमिका:

  • mRNA

  • Ribosome

  • tRNA

  • Amino acids

की होती है।


31. Central Dogma

Molecular biology का सामान्य information flow:

DNA → RNA → Protein

इसे Central Dogma के रूप में पढ़ाया जाता है।

ध्यान दें कि biological systems में information flow के कुछ additional pathways भी पाए जाते हैं, जैसे RNA से DNA बनने की प्रक्रिया reverse transcription।


32. Genetic Code

Genetic code nucleotide sequence और amino acid sequence के बीच संबंध स्थापित करता है।

एक codon में तीन nucleotides होते हैं।

कुल:

64 codons

होते हैं।

इनमें:

  • 61 amino acids specify करते हैं।

  • 3 stop codons होते हैं।

Stop codons:

  • UAA

  • UAG

  • UGA

NHGRI भी 64 codons में 61 amino-acid specifying और 3 stop signals बताता है।


33. Mutation

DNA sequence में होने वाला heritable या potentially heritable change mutation कहलाता है।

Mutation के प्रकारों में:

  • Substitution

  • Insertion

  • Deletion

जैसे changes शामिल हो सकते हैं।

NHGRI के अनुसार insertion DNA sequence में nucleotides के addition और deletion nucleotides के loss को refer करता है।


34. Point Mutation

एक single nucleotide/base pair से संबंधित mutation को सामान्यतः Point Mutation कहा जाता है।

उदाहरण:

एक base का दूसरे base से substitution।

Point mutations के effects:

  • Neutral हो सकते हैं।

  • Protein function बदल सकते हैं।

  • कभी harmful या beneficial effects भी हो सकते हैं।


35. Frameshift Mutation

यदि coding sequence में insertion या deletion तीन के multiple में न हो, तो downstream reading frame बदल सकता है।

इसे Frameshift Mutation कहते हैं।

यह protein sequence पर गंभीर प्रभाव डाल सकता है।


36. Mutagens

ऐसे physical या chemical agents जो mutation की frequency बढ़ा सकते हैं, Mutagens कहलाते हैं।

उदाहरण:

  • कुछ forms of radiation

  • कुछ chemical agents


37. Gene Expression

Gene expression वह process है जिसके द्वारा genetic information functional product में उपयोग होती है।

Protein-coding gene के लिए broadly:

DNA → RNA → Protein

इस process में:

  • Transcription

  • RNA processing

  • Translation

जैसी प्रक्रियाएँ शामिल हो सकती हैं।


38. Lac Operon

Lac operon bacteria में gene regulation का classic example है।

यह lactose utilization से संबंधित genes के regulation को समझाने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण model है।

Lac operon में प्रमुख components:

  • Regulatory gene

  • Promoter

  • Operator

  • Structural genes

शामिल होते हैं।

यह prokaryotic gene regulation समझने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है।


39. Linkage

एक ही chromosome पर स्थित genes जो एक-दूसरे के साथ inherited होने की tendency रखते हैं, Linked Genes कहलाते हैं।

Linkage independent assortment से deviation का कारण बन सकता है।

Genes chromosome पर जितने पास होते हैं, उनके साथ inherited होने की संभावना सामान्यतः उतनी अधिक होती है।


40. Crossing Over

Meiosis के दौरान homologous chromosomes के non-sister chromatids के बीच genetic material का exchange Crossing Over कहलाता है।

यह genetic recombination उत्पन्न करता है।

Crossing over सामान्यतः Prophase I of Meiosis के दौरान होता है।

यह offspring में genetic variation का महत्वपूर्ण स्रोत है।


41. Recombination

Genetic material के नए combinations बनने की प्रक्रिया को genetic recombination कहा जाता है।

इसके महत्वपूर्ण mechanisms:

  • Crossing over

  • Independent assortment

  • Random fertilization

Genetic recombination offspring में variation बढ़ाने में महत्वपूर्ण है।


42. Sex Determination in Humans

Humans में sex determination में sex chromosomes महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं।

सामान्य chromosomal pattern:

Female:

XX

Male:

XY

Female का egg सामान्यतः X chromosome carry करता है।

Male के sperm में X या Y chromosome हो सकता है।

इसलिए fertilization के समय sperm का X या Y chromosome होना offspring के chromosomal sex से संबंधित होता है।


43. Sex-Linked Inheritance

Sex chromosome पर स्थित genes के inheritance को Sex-linked inheritance कहा जाता है।

X-linked inheritance में gene X chromosome पर स्थित होता है।

Examples:

  • Haemophilia

  • Red-green colour vision deficiency

कुछ X-linked recessive conditions males में अधिक frequently दिखाई दे सकती हैं क्योंकि males के पास सामान्यतः एक ही X chromosome होता है।


44. Haemophilia

Haemophilia कुछ hereditary bleeding disorders के लिए प्रयुक्त term है।

Classical examples में कुछ forms X-linked recessive inheritance follow करते हैं।

इसमें blood clotting की प्रक्रिया प्रभावित हो सकती है।


45. Colour Vision Deficiency

कुछ forms of red-green colour vision deficiency X-linked recessive inheritance pattern follow करते हैं।

यह colour discrimination को प्रभावित कर सकता है।


46. Pedigree Analysis

Family में किसी genetic trait के inheritance pattern को diagram द्वारा represent करने को Pedigree Analysis कहते हैं।

Pedigree से inheritance pattern के बारे में information प्राप्त की जा सकती है।

Common symbols:

  • Square = Male

  • Circle = Female

  • Shaded = Trait affected/represented

  • Horizontal line = Marriage/relationship

  • Vertical line = Offspring relationship


47. Genetic Disorders

Genetic disorders broadly कई प्रकार के हो सकते हैं:

Single-Gene Disorders

एक gene में pathogenic variant से संबंधित disorders।

Chromosomal Disorders

Chromosome number या structure में abnormality से संबंधित disorders।

Multifactorial Disorders

कई genetic और environmental factors के combined effects से संबंधित conditions।


48. Mendelian Disorders

कुछ disorders single-gene inheritance patterns follow करते हैं।

NCERT में examples के रूप में:

  • Thalassemia

  • Haemophilia

  • Colour blindness

जैसे topics पढ़ाए जाते हैं।


49. Chromosomal Disorders

Chromosome number या structure में abnormalities genetic disorders का कारण बन सकती हैं।

Important examples:

Down Syndrome

सामान्यतः chromosome 21 की अतिरिक्त copy से संबंधित:

Trisomy 21

Turner Syndrome

Classically:

Klinefelter Syndrome

Classically:

ये chromosome-number abnormalities के important examples हैं।


50. Genome

किसी organism के complete genetic material को broadly Genome कहा जाता है।

Human genome में:

  • Nuclear DNA

  • Mitochondrial DNA

शामिल होते हैं।

Human nuclear genome में 23 pairs of chromosomes होते हैं।


51. Human Genome Project

Human Genome Project (HGP) एक international scientific project था जिसका प्रमुख उद्देश्य human genome के DNA sequence को determine और characterize करना था।

इसके परिणामों ने modern genomics को आगे बढ़ाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।


52. DNA Fingerprinting

DNA fingerprinting ऐसी molecular technique है जिसका उपयोग individuals के बीच DNA variation के आधार पर identification या biological relationship analysis में किया जा सकता है।

Applications:

  • Forensic science

  • Paternity/relationship analysis

  • Identification

  • Biological research


53. Genetic Variation

Individuals के DNA sequences में differences को Genetic Variation कहा जाता है।

Variation के कुछ forms:

  • SNPs

  • Insertions

  • Deletions

  • Structural variants

NHGRI के अनुसार genomic variation individuals या populations के DNA sequence differences को refer करता है; सभी variants का biological effect नहीं होता।


54. SNP

SNP का full form:

Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism

है।

यह DNA sequence में single nucleotide variation का एक प्रकार है।

SNPs individuals के बीच genetic differences में योगदान कर सकते हैं।


55. Genetic Drift

Population में allele frequencies का chance events के कारण बदलना Genetic Drift कहलाता है।

Genetic drift छोटे populations में विशेष रूप से महत्वपूर्ण हो सकता है।

इसके classic examples:

  • Founder Effect

  • Bottleneck Effect


56. Gene Flow

एक population से दूसरी population में individuals या उनके reproductive material के movement के कारण alleles का populations के बीच transfer Gene Flow कहलाता है।

Gene flow population के allele frequencies को बदल सकता है।


57. Hardy-Weinberg Principle

Ideal conditions में population में allele और genotype frequencies generation-to-generation constant रह सकती हैं।

Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium के लिए broadly assumptions:

  • Large population

  • Random mating

  • No mutation

  • No migration/gene flow

  • No natural selection

दो alleles के लिए:

p + q = 1

और genotype frequencies:

p² + 2pq + q² = 1

यह principle population genetics में equilibrium को समझने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है।


58. Genetics और Evolution

Genetic variation evolution के लिए आवश्यक है।

Variation के प्रमुख sources:

  • Recombination

  • Gene flow

  • Genetic processes affecting allele frequencies

Natural selection कुछ heritable variations की frequency को generations के दौरान बदल सकती है।
