IDP Education has announced a major change in the way IELTS will be conducted in India. The traditional paper-based IELTS will be completely discontinued after August 2026. From September 2026, only computer-based formats will be available.

Final Paper-Based Test Dates (Last Chance)
Candidates who still prefer the paper format can register for these final three dates:
- 25 July 2026
- 6 August 2026
- 22 August 2026 (Last paper-based test in India)
After 22 August 2026, paper-based IELTS will no longer be offered in India.
Two Computer-Based Options from September 2026
1. IELTS on Computer (Standard)
- Listening, Reading and Writing sections on computer
- Speaking test face-to-face with a certified examiner
- Features: Type answers, easy editing, on-screen timer, clear audio via headphones
2. IELTS on Computer (Writing on Paper) – Hybrid Option
- Listening and Reading on computer
- Writing section on paper (for candidates who prefer handwriting)
- Speaking test remains face-to-face

Important Advice for Candidates
- If you prefer writing by hand, book one of the final paper-based tests before 22 August 2026.
- Start practising typing for the Writing section if you plan to take the full computer-based version.

- The change does not affect the validity or recognition of IELTS scores.
